Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is trying her absolute best to “win” the coronavirus relief package negotiations. We are sure that Americans love to see her acting like these all important talks are a game to be won or lost, but we digress. She is now claiming that she is calling all of the House members back to Washington, DC, so that they can continue to work on the package.
Funding for the United States Post Office has become the most contentious aspect of these negotiations. In fact, Pelosi has even decided to cut the summer recess period short, so that all parties involved can bang out a deal. This week, a bill is expected to be introduced and Congress members are being encouraged to steer clear of making any changes to the United States Post Office.
The Republicans are fearful about lost and missing ballots during the next election and this has led to a major stalemate. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, introduced a bill last night that would keep the United States Post Office from being able to implement a massive overhaul to their organization.
Experts believe that the overhaul would actually make it more difficult to count up the mail in votes. This bill is known as the Delivering for America Act. The Democratic convention is about to start (virtually, of course) and they are more concerned with peddling conspiracy theories. This is one party that does not have their eyes on the prize.
Their crackpot theory is easy enough to follow. The leftists are claiming that President Trump and the Postmaster General are in cahoots. They are going to come together to sabotage the upcoming election in Trump’s favor. Trump is supposedly instructing the Postmaster General to make changes that are designed to impede the Democratic party.
Meanwhile, the Democrats are trying their best to use the leverage that they think they have, in hopes of passing their wish list that doubles as a coronavirus relief bill. Billions of taxpayer dollars are being played with right now but the Democrats do not care. They are not fighting to help their fellow Americans in August, they are fighting to win an election in November.
If the Democrats do not receive the $25 billion in emergency funding that they need to keep the Post Office alive, no one knows what is going to happen next. Are Americans going to be forced to go without until common sense has a chance to prevail? President Trump has tried his best to communicate with the media about the gravity of the situation.
“Now, they need that money in order to have the post office work, so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” said Trump. “But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.” Pelosi has now sent a letter to the Democrats and she is issuing dire warnings about an upcoming emergency hearing.
If all goes according to plan, Postmaster General DeJoy is going to have to testify in front of Congress. She stands accused of working with Trump and manipulating the election. “Alarmingly, the Postmaster General — a Trump mega-donor — has acted as an accomplice in the president’s campaign to cheat in the election, as he launches sweeping new operational changes that degrade delivery standards and delay the mail,” said Pelosi. Chuck Schumer was also on hand.
The Democrats do not appreciate the decisions that are being made by DeJoy and that’s why they are looking to put a stop to them. It really isn’t any more complex than that. The United States Postal Service union members are also backing Joe Biden’s presidential bid, which surely plays a role in these proceedings. As always, the Democrats are taking a national crisis and doing their best to put it to good use.
