Over the past few years, the Democratic party has grown increasingly more extreme concerning abortion rights, while Republicans have tightened their stance against the freedom to murder unborn children. Though the issue has spurned an untold number of heated debates, the topic was carefully avoided at this year’s DNC.
Joe Biden, and more especially his chosen running mate, Kamala Harris, are about as pro-choice as any two sub-species of humans can possibly be, yet credit must be given to them and the other invited speakers for never once uttering the phrase, “women’s rights.” It’s way too controversial of an issue and would have tainted the luster of what they were trying to present.
The only subtle reference to abortion was spewed for the mouth of Harris when she said, “Black, Latino, and indigenous people are suffering and dying disproportionately [because of] the injustice in reproductive and maternal health care.” This comment flew over the heads of almost every liberal viewer.
Despite their willful avoidance of the topic, one glance at the platform the Democrats are attempting to inflict upon America, clearly states the stance they have taken, and here it is in black and white.
We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion. We will repeal the Title X domestic gag rule and restore federal funding for Planned Parenthood. . . . Democrats oppose and will fight to overturn federal and state laws that create barriers to reproductive health and rights. We will repeal the Hyde Amendment, and protect and codify the right to reproductive freedom. . . . Democrats oppose restrictions on medication abortion care that are inconsistent with the most recent medical and scientific evidence and that do not protect public health.
Because the Democratic party has sold Biden as a moderate, to have publically stated their views on national television would have been to have some of their faithful followers demanding a refund. And at this point in their fledging lackluster campaign, they cannot afford to lose any votes.
One of the few remaining stances which allowed Biden to wear the label of moderate, was his support of the Hyde amendment which disallows federal dollars to be used in the underwriting of abortions. But as early as last summer, he flip-flopped for political reasons only.
In a stark reversal, Biden now unequivocally supports elective abortions at American tax-payers expense, with barely any restrictions whatsoever. Whether Biden actually believes this in his heart is non-consequential. He’ll do or say anything to get elected.
An overwhelming majority of American citizens disagree with unrestrictive abortions, and an even greater number of the general public is against using their hard-earned tax money to pay for something they don’t believe in.
To put this in percentages, a Gallup poll revealed how only 13% of Americans agree with abortion at any stage of a woman’s pregnancy, and only 18% of Democrats are in favor of it. So is it any wonder why the DNC skirted the issue?
A poll taken in 2017 showed how nearly three-quarters of Democrats were against using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions, and a 2018 poll showed an even split.
Since the current Democratic platform goes against the wishes of the majority of Democrat voters, Biden and Harris felt it best to not stir a pot of discourse. After all, who really takes the time to read what the platform actually says? Out of sight. Out of mind.
But some people do read it, and this resulted in over 100 pro-life leaders of the Democratic party constructing a letter to Biden, demanding he returns to the moderate platform he has always stood on, or risk losing their support.
Based on the letter, will Biden once again flip-flop? He seems to do so with regularity whenever one of his stances becomes problematic. And if he does this so easily during the election campaign, what will he do if elected? It’s a frightening thought at best. Trump 2020. Baby’s lives depend on it.
