House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made a surprising move of surrender on Thursday when she informed Americans that she wouldn’t continue her campaign to impeach the president of the United States.
Her declaration comes as the White House is in the midst of a hard-fought campaign against the entire Democratic industrial complex who are pushing a shockingly inept candidate toward the Oval Office.
While her comments were encouraging, on one hand, it came with a side of further (and literal) obstruction of justice since she said she will be focusing her efforts on other ways to stop the president from replacing the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the November election.
“I don’t think he’s worth the trouble at this point, we have 40 days until the election,” Pelosi told reporters according to Breitbart News. Her comments were made in response to questions about whether she would attempt to enact a censure resolution or try to impeach the president for a second time. “It’s no use orchestrating one thing or another when what really matters in terms of the peaceful transfer of power is that people vote.”
The political mainstay opened the door to questions about impeachment during a Sunday interview on ABC News’ This Week when she hinted “we have arrows in our quiver.”
“We have our options,” she told host George Stephanopoulos. “This president has threatened to not even accept the results of the election with statements that he and his henchmen have made. Right now, our main goal — and I think Ruth Bader Ginsburg would want that to be to protect the integrity of the election — that we protect the American people from the coronavirus.”
Her Sunday comments were met with a strong show of force by her minority party counterpart and fellow Californian House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) who warned that he and other House Republicans would attempt to oust her if she tried to impeach the president for a second time.
“I will make you this one promise, listening to the speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker. She may think she has a quiver — we do too,” McCarthy told reporters according to Breitbart.
The entire fiasco seems to be all in an attempt to make sure that the Supreme Court doesn’t lean very far to the right, which will likely be the result if a conservative is installed in Ginsburg’s recent seat.
Both of the president’s previous Supreme Court nominees were replacing Supreme Court voters that were already in the conservative camp, and while it would have been nice for one of those votes to swing left, it also wouldn’t upset the balance if they didn’t. Ginsburg, however, has been the leader of the liberal judges on the court, and her replacement with a conservative is going to be a tough blow to the party that invented legislating from the bench.
President Trump has announced that he does plan to continue with his 11th-hour nomination to the bench with a scant more than a month left before the election, and is believed to be likely to announce his nominee this week.
“I will be announcing my Supreme Court Nominee on Saturday, at the White House! Exact time TBA,” the president tweeted Tuesday morning.
It’s also thought likely that the president will nominate a woman. Who knows, maybe Democrats will find cell phone footage from the ’80s showing her doing something crazy at a party, and we get to see CNN parade experts through proving the advanced technological nature of the Democratic party. Until we find out what’s up their sleeve, we can still hold onto hope that a fifth conservative Supreme Court justice might be in our near future.
