The Washington Post is offering up a rare concession and we are stunned. Of course, they are framing it in a certain way. They can’t simply call out Joe Biden for his astonishing incoherence.
It has to be framed as an attack from the Republicans. From the onset of his campaign, Biden attempted to talk out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to the domestic energy production policy.
American media outlets did their best not to notice what was taking place here. Biden keeps declaring that he will put an end to fossil fuel production during his speeches.
When he is questioned about it, he always lies and says that he did not say it. He’s walking a tightrope and it’s only a matter of time before he takes a serious tumble.
Biden finally decided to tell the truth during the most recent debate because he started to wear down towards the end. The Trump campaign has finally received the necessary vindication.
The Democrats who attempted to walk the aforementioned tightrope with Biden are now feeling like they have been taken for quite the ride.
There are a number of divisions within the Democratic Party when it comes to climate change. Biden is left to navigate these schisms on his own. Now that the balancing act is threatened, the Democrats are not sure how to proceed.
This provides President Trump with the perfect chance to strike. “Trump, he’s obviously looking for something to try and hang his hat on at this point,” says Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio).
His district borders Pennsylvania, where the fracking conversation has become a major issue. Trump and his campaign have now seized on the Biden commentary from the debate, claiming that he will be taking jobs away from those who vote for him.
The liberals who have been led to believe that there will be a Green New Deal once the election is over are also going to be putting lots of pressure on him.
Some might say he’s toed the line, others will call him two-faced. He’s trying his best to serve two masters but this is not working out as he had hoped. In order to regain the center, he can’t lose either side.
Even the most coherent Democrat would struggle mightily with such a balancing act. He’s been getting away with it, though. The jig was not up until Thursday.
The more vulnerable Democrats all took to Twitter after the debate, in hopes of distancing themselves from Biden’s commentary. “I disagree with VP Biden’s statement tonight. Energy is part of the backbone of New Mexico’s economy,” New Mexico Rep. Xochitl Torres Small said. “Here’s one of the places Biden and I disagree. We must stand up for our oil and gas industry,” said Oklahoma representative Kendra Horn.
The issue has become massive because climate change is not the only existential threat that the United States is currently facing. Russia and China are also looming in the rearview mirror. Daniel Yergin, author of The New Map: Energy, Climate, and the Clash of Nations, has some interesting thoughts on the subject.
“Overall, this new position resulting from fracking is a fundamental contribution to U.S. energy security,” Yergin says.
“The shale revolution and America’s regaining energy independence have bolstered U.S. foreign policy and augmented America’s position in the world,” he continued.
The national security of all this is important. We must be able to produce our own energy, to reduce reliance on foreign nations. If oil prices rise, Russia and Iran benefit.
This is not about the Republicans taking the chance to pounce, it is about Democrats recoiling once their lies are exposed.
A large number of voters are likely to reconsider if their priorities are not properly considered. Biden has spent a lot of time making big promises to the left about climate change. They are going to want to see some results.
