The last time Americans saw any stimulus of substance in response to the pandemic was in April. Sure, those who have been laid off are getting a healthier unemployment check. But, what about everyone else? And what about the small businesses that are still suffering due to city and state closure mandates?
Congress was supposed to focus on a stimulus package to help out the American people. However, as usual, there was a clash between the House and the Senate. The House Leader, Nancy Pelosi, wouldn’t make a deal unless it included a stimulus check for all of the illegal aliens in the country.
Yes, you read that correctly. No deal could be made because Pelosi is fighting for illegal aliens instead of the American people.
After knowing that they weren’t going to get anywhere, the GOP took the deal off the table so that the Senate could focus on the hearing for Amy Coney Barrett.
Now that the hearing is over, are we going to see movement on a stimulus package? Don’t hold your breath.
The likelihood of Congress striking a deal before the election is highly unlikely at this point – and much of that has to do with the Senate leaving Washington for their October recess.
President Trump promises that following the election, Americans can look forward to the “best stimulus package.” What that’s going to entail is anyone’s guess.
Now, that’s not to say that there still isn’t some work being done behind the scenes. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has been talking with Pelosi almost daily to see if it’s possible to negotiate some of the differences so that a deal can be made. However, the Dems are being unreasonable about some of their demands – and they also want a national strategic plan that focuses on health involving testing and tracing – something that many say is impossible to roll out.
Who is to blame for not having a stimulus bill passed? The Dems blame the GOP and the GOP blame the Dems. There is still a lot of negotiations to be made. Pelosi’s aide, Drew Hammill, tweeted that Mitch McConnell needs to agree to comprehensive legislation that is bipartisan in order to “Crush the virus, honor our heroes – our essential workers – and put money in the pockets of the American people.”

All of that sounds great – but the Dems aren’t being totally honest about all of the other things they’re trying to squeeze into the bill. They’ve got big numbers on the table. Those numbers don’t fit into the budget, and the fiscally responsible GOP can’t, in good faith, allow some of those bigger numbers to pass. Otherwise, there’s a bigger question – where is the money going to come from?
If the Dems wanted to get rid of their liberal wish list, a deal might be made a lot faster – say, after the Senate returns from their break.
Even though everyone is promising that there’s a deal that will be made, we can’t expect one to happen until after the election. And, depending on the election results, it may take quite some time to see one. For example, if Biden is the winner, Pelosi may decide to hold off on negotiations until after he is sworn in in January. After all, she’d rather deal with Biden than Trump. And, she cares more about playing political games than taking care of the American people.
The pandemic has been hitting the American people for seven months now. It’s seven months of lost jobs, closed businesses, and spikes in the cost of goods. Even those who haven’t lost their jobs are feeling it financially – and a stimulus bill could be just what’s needed to help everything get back to normal again.
So, it looks like we’ll have to hold our breaths and head to the polling stations. If we can vote in Trump for another four years, we can look forward to the “best” stimulus package that he has promised.
