As you well know, America’s been experiencing some rather mind-blowing crises as of late. But while the one focusing on Afghanistan is relatively new, the one facing our southern border with Mexico is far from the same. In fact, it’s been going on for years now.
Of course, the political left would love for you to believe that it is all because of former GOP President Donald Trump. Remember the “kids in cages” pictures released shortly after Trump took office and started making changes along the border?
It was later discovered that those images had nothing to do with Trump or his policies but his predecessor, Barack Obama. So it should be no surprise that now, with Obama’s second in command as our new president, things along the border have returned to their chaotic state.
Only this time it’s worse, much worse.
According to recent findings by the Pew Research Center, illegal migrant crossings for the month of July sat at a record-breaking 21-year high of 199,777. To be clear, that’s just for illegal crossings found and just in the span of one month. And according to everyone’s predictions, August numbers are to be just as bad, if not worse.
Additionally, crime and COVID have fully swept through southern border states like Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, leaving death, destruction, and fear in the wake.
Thankfully, some people have decided to stand up and try to stop the never-ending influx of migrants. And it starts with finishing Trump’s border wall.
As I am sure you know, Biden ordered all construction on the wall to be halted on his first day as our Commander in Chief. And his orders were followed. According to Border Patrol Agent Richard Barragan, “The contractors just stopped.”
But what you and Biden may not know is that this left gaping holes, yes, literal holes all along the border. Where something even as weak as a chain-link fence once stood, now nothing exists. In Barragan’s El Paso, Texas, sector of the border, there’s one spot that is now a “20-foot gap” in the border, allowing migrants to freely traverse right across the border and onto US land without so much as a string to hop over.
According to Barragan, the area of Border Monument Three, where the gap is, might be a bit tricky for some to traverse due to the terrain, but the lack of fencing of any kind only encourages migrants to try.
And that’s exactly why some within his unit are making serious efforts to block that gap and effectively finish the wall.
According to The New York Post, Border Patrol agents from the area have come together, using the now-abandoned border wall materials left by Biden, to fill in the gaps. Barragan says, “We have some agents who are good welders, and they put it all together.”
Naturally, those on the political left are likely to throw a major stink about this, possibly even meeting out punishment for all those involved in these efforts. However, as El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez told the Post, she’s not doing anything to hinder their progress.
She says, “The wall enhances my officers’ safety. It delays entry and allows the agent to have the advantage. Additionally, it protects the agent.” And she’s all for allowing anything that will make her and the agent’s jobs a bit easier.
As with all border patrol agents, Chavez’s team has been working tirelessly to stem the flow of migrants, keep the peace in the area, and follow all the rules. But with limited personnel, budget cuts, and even more limited resources, it seems they are hardly making a dent in the problem at hand.
It will help that the Supreme Court just ordered that Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy be put back into place, albeit with some changes. But, of course, as Biden’s admin is slow to do much of anything these days, it will likely be months before we see any significant progress on that front.
In the meantime, we can hope and pray that the recently filled gap near El Paso will help, at least in this area. Now, if we could get the rest of the gaps filled, some hundreds of feet wide, we’d be in business, as they say.
