House GOP Turns the Tables on Pelosi’s Pet January 6 Project

For nearly a year now, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her ilk have been “investigating” the January 6 capital incursion. But they have done little in actually making much headway. Instead, they have only painted former president Donald Trump as the instigator and every Trump supporter as the perpetrator, despite evidence that holds to the contrary.

Thankfully, some in Washington are actually trying to get to the bottom of what went wrong on that day. Enter the House Administration Committee and its ranking minority member Representative Rodney Davis of Illinois. Davis wrote to Pelosi and friends on Monday, asking for some information, information that had so far been denied to them.

So what info does Davis want?

Well, he’d like to know more about the security procedures in place during the time of now-infamous incursion, as well as information about House officers who directly report to the speaker’s office. Basically, they want to know a little bit more about the exact role Pelosi played or may have played on that day.

After all, as House Speaker, all security personnel report to her at some level, including the House Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police. It would simply be nice to know what orders they had leading up to January 6 and, if anything had been done differently, could have avoided some of the disasters.

In truth, this is not the first time Davis or others have asked for the information. In fact, that’s been done numerous times throughout the last year. But so far, Pelosi and her committee have stonewalled the House Administration Committee. In fact, House officers who are under Pelosi’s control have withheld all information about the day so far.

But when it comes to Pelosi getting what she wants, the same refusals are, apparently, not allowed.

For example, former Trump advisor Steve Bannon was indicted with a contempt charge by a federal grand jury for refusing to comply with subpoenas from Pelosi’s January 6 committee.

Similarly, former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was held in criminal contempt for refusing to cooperate with the committee, according to a December report by CNN.

Both of these men did exactly what Pelosi and her committee are now doing. They refused to answer some questions and appear before them. And for those actions or lack thereof, they were punished.

But now that it’s inconvenient for Pelosi to follow the same rules, she has no problem creating a double standard. Not that this should be a surprise to any of us at this point. I mean, how many times has she and her partisans only worn a mask when it suited them or traveled on vacation right after putting lockdowns in effect for everyone else?

    But I digress…

As Davis wrote in his letter, “There is irony in the fact that at the same time House Democrats are holding witnesses in criminal contempt of Congress for raising genuine questions of legal privilege, you continue to obstruct Republican access to House records relating to the security preparedness of the Capitol complex.”

    Irony, indeed.

I doubt very much that Pelosi will be thrilled about being held in contempt herself. Then again, since the majority is Democrats, that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. At least until November 8, 2022, when congressional midterms will take place, and a complete Republican takeover is expected.

Perhaps then, we will finally get some answers.

As Davis says, we could have them now if only Pelosi and her ilk were “truly interested” in getting to the root of the problem and improving Capitol security. But as I mentioned earlier, that’s never been the real goal of the January 6 committee, has it? No, that has been to smear Trump and all GOP members who had an inkling of respect for him.

But until then, it seems Pelosi is content to continue to believe that the rules she institutes for everyone else don’t really apply to her or her party. It’s a good thing November is coming up fast…
